The Social Network and Citizen Kane

A man’s convictions can either be his best asset or his greatest upset. None come truer than the two individuals portrayed in the films The Social Network and Citizen Kane. The films present two men who have both been set upon a path which will lead them to success and glory. The films are more similar than the gap in time might lead you not to believe. In Citizen Kane, Charles Foster Kane is young millionaire that purchases a printing company. He builds the company from the ground up only following his own rules no matter where they lead him. He is much like the Mark Zuckerberg character who is portrayed in The Social Network as a genius recluse who finds himself creator of the biggest networking site in the world. These characters interactions with people they meet or come to befriend are quite similar in the way they are misunderstood. Mark Zuckerberg and Charles Forster Cain are both characters that do not listen to reason or sense. They are stubborn men who strive for perfection. In both films they do not care for collateral damage as long as there empires seem un hindered by them. Two great films which show the rise of brilliant men and their principles take them to un matched heights.

  1. Great contrasting. I agree with you about what you said " They are stubborn men who strive for perfection". It was very true for both. You should have also compared the differences between them but how they still tie in together.
